The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced new dates for Nigeria’s 2027 elections. Presidential and National Assembly polls are now set for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Assembly elections will hold on February 6.
The Osun governorship election has been moved to August 15, 2026.
Party primaries and dispute resolutions are scheduled for April to May 2026. This gives political parties time to select candidates and settle internal disputes before campaigns begin.
Campaigns will run from August through September, ending 24 hours before each election. INEC says the changes aim to ensure smooth preparation and a credible, transparent electoral process.
