Ado Ekiti Communities Cry Out Over Four-Month Blackout

Residents of Oke Alaafia, Igirimo, Alaafiatayo Zone 3, and Alaafia Central Zone in Ado Ekiti have appealed to the Ekiti State Government for urgent intervention to restore electricity to their communities. At a press conference held in Igirimo, residents, armed with placards, pleaded with Governor Biodun Oyebanji to provide a new transformer, as their current one, donated in 2011 by former Governor Kayode Fayemi, has repeatedly broken down and is now beyond repair.

Speaking on behalf of the affected residents, Mr Olukayode Jegede and Mr Adebola Ayegbusi lamented the devastating impact of the blackout on local businesses and daily life. While acknowledging Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to infrastructure development, they urged him to extend his efforts to their communities. They also called on Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, known for donating transformers to other areas, to assist in their plight. Mr Ade Adetola, a government appointee and resident, assured the people that the governor and the senator, both known for their compassion, would act swiftly to resolve the issue.

Several business owners shared emotional testimonies about how the lack of electricity has crippled their means of livelihood, forcing many to close down. The residents remain hopeful that their appeals will be heard, bringing an end to their four-month-long blackout and restoring normalcy to their socioeconomic lives.
