Akpabio Highlights Education as Tool for Crime Reduction at EKSU Convocation

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has commended Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for prioritising education as a transformative tool for societal development and crime reduction. Speaking at the 29th convocation of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Akpabio emphasised that the administration’s investments in education are equipping young people with the skills needed to secure their future while deterring criminal activities. He also directed the Senate to fast-track the approval for the construction of the Ado-Ijan Ekiti road to enhance access to the state’s agro-allied international cargo airport and boost economic activities.

Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning the education sector, stressing its role as the foundation for human capital development and economic growth. He highlighted EKSU’s recent ranking as Nigeria’s top state university and praised the institution’s contributions to global education standards. The Governor also announced a financial intervention of over ₦438 million to support judiciary, legislative, and subvented institutions following the new minimum wage implementation, urging workers to reciprocate through increased productivity.

The event also saw the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Federal Internal Revenue Service Chairman Zacch Adedeji, and Bank of Industry Board Chairman Mansur Muhtar. Bamidele, speaking on behalf of the awardees, expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged continued efforts toward education and national development. EKSU’s Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Akin Oyebode, and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ayodele, also lauded the Governor for his unwavering support in elevating the university’s academic standards and financial stability.
