Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy (Damini Ogulu), has come under heavy criticism after being spotted partying with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Afro-fusion star, known for his outspoken views on social justice and inequality, left many fans disappointed after a video surfaced showing him socialising with the president’s son at a nightclub.
The backlash comes in the wake of a brewing controversy involving Seyi Tinubu and veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem. Abdulkareem recently released a protest track that criticised both the president and his son for the country’s deteriorating economy—a song that was subsequently banned by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
Many Nigerians online have described Burna Boy’s actions as hypocritical, given his history of championing the struggles of ordinary citizens through his music. Critics say the move sends mixed signals and undermines his credibility as a voice for the people.
As of now, Burna Boy has not publicly responded to the criticism.
