The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced it will commence the nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) starting August 15. This move is seen as a strategic effort to ease the pressure on fuel supply across the country.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns over potential fuel scarcity, particularly in Lagos and surrounding areas, due to a brewing crisis involving the Lagos State Government’s E-Call Up system for truck movement. Tanker drivers and fuel marketers have threatened to halt product loading from today, citing the unaffordable cost of N12,500 per truck under the new policy.
The affected operators, especially those operating along the Lekki-Epe corridor, argue that the E-Call Up fee is unsustainable and could further disrupt fuel supply chains. The Dangote Refinery’s planned distribution is expected to cushion the impact if the standoff persists.
