Donald Trump Named Time’s 2024 Person of the Year

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has been named Time magazine’s 2024 “Person of the Year,” a recognition of his profound impact on American politics and the nation’s role on the global stage. Time Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs lauded Trump for “marshaling a comeback of historic proportions” and reshaping the American presidency in his letter to readers.

This marks the second time Trump has received the title, following his initial recognition in 2016 after his first presidential election victory. Time’s decision this year follows previous winners, including Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in 2020, and pop star Taylor Swift in 2023. The magazine’s latest issue features an in-depth interview with Trump conducted at his Mar-a-Lago resort, where he critiqued Ukraine’s use of U.S.-supplied missiles and expressed plans to review childhood vaccination programs alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his nominee for Health and Human Services Secretary.

To celebrate the honour, Trump rang the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange, where he was met with cheers. The gesture symbolised his promise to reshape America’s economy and global influence as he prepares for his second term in office.
