Ekiti Government Expands School Feeding with Free Milk Initiative

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has unveiled plans to incorporate milk into the Federal Government’s school feeding programme for all primary school pupils across the state. This initiative, aimed at improving the nutritional value of school meals, is part of broader efforts to support children’s health, learning outcomes, and overall welfare. The announcement was made during the official flag-off of the “Ikun Free Milk” programme in Ikun Ekiti—a weekly milk distribution initiative spearheaded by Promasidor Nigeria Ltd as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the host community.

At the launch event, Governor Oyebanji described the milk programme as a complementary effort to the Federal Government’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of nutrition in cognitive and physical development. He expressed confidence that this intervention would encourage school enrolment and consistent attendance among pupils. The Governor also lauded Promasidor’s partnership, assuring the company and potential investors of his administration’s commitment to a business-friendly environment through robust policies, infrastructure development, and enhanced security.

The event also featured remarks from key stakeholders including the Minister of Livestock Development, represented by Mr. Victor Egbon, who praised the revitalization of Ikun Dairy Farm as a model Public-Private Partnership. Promasidor’s representative, Dr. Enom Udoma-Eniang, thanked the state government for its unwavering support and affirmed the company’s commitment to sustaining and expanding its investments in Ekiti. Governor Oyebanji later toured the dairy farm and expressed satisfaction with the farm’s growth, especially the increase in milk production, herd size, and employment opportunities.
