Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has assured that the state government will swiftly rebuild Saint Peter’s Primary School, Igbemo-Ekiti, which was destroyed by a fire reportedly caused by a thunder strike. Represented by his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, the governor commended the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for promptly relocating affected pupils to a nearby school to ensure their learning was not disrupted.
While inspecting the site of the incident, Oyebanji expressed sadness over the loss of the five-classroom block but was relieved that no casualties were recorded. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment, assuring that the school’s reconstruction would begin immediately. The governor also responded to concerns from teachers at the temporary school, ordering an end to unsanitary practices such as refuse dumping and open defecation within the premises.
Education Secretary for Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, Mrs Adesola George-Ojo, welcomed the governor’s intervention and emphasized the need to complete the school’s perimeter fencing to prevent further encroachment. She noted that addressing these challenges would safeguard pupils’ health and improve the overall learning environment.
