Ekiti Govt Approves New Policies, Infrastructure Upgrades in Key Sectors

The Ekiti State Executive Council, led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has approved several key policies and projects aimed at boosting cultural heritage, economic development, and infrastructure. One of the major decisions is the adoption of Ekiti Adire as the official attire for civil servants and political office holders every third Wednesday of the month to promote local craftsmanship and tourism. The council also approved the presentation of the Ekiti State Lotteries and Gaming Commission Bill 2025 to regulate betting activities and increase government revenue.

In the area of infrastructure, the government has allocated N2 billion for the renovation of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti, including a synthetic turf football pitch, VIP stands, and athletics tracks, with completion expected in three months. Additionally, a 900-seat indoor sports complex is under construction to support various indoor and combat sports. Other approvals include the installation of solar streetlights in Ado-Ekiti, replacement of transformers in power-deprived areas, and a N1.07 billion budget for continuous maintenance of the Ekiti International Cargo Airport to fast-track flight operations.

The council also approved a N674.4 million budget revision for the completion of the Ekiti Arts and Cultural Centre, which was initially budgeted at N221 million but increased due to inflation and additional features. To mitigate erosion at the cargo airport, N63.4 million was allocated for grass planting in erosion-prone areas. Governor Oyebanji’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to fostering economic growth, youth development, and job creation through strategic investments in sports, culture, and critical infrastructure.
