Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu, representing Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency Two in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, has praised the swift response of the Ekiti State Fire Service in averting a potential disaster at Ekiti State University (EKSU). The incident occurred on Thursday, January 9, 2025, when a fire broke out near the Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies.
Jamiu, who witnessed the fire while studying in the library, recounted the events in a Facebook post. He quickly alerted the fire service, which arrived on the scene within twenty minutes. The firefighters promptly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the library and causing extensive damage.
The lawmaker commended the fire service for their efficiency, particularly lauding Mr. Ayeni, who coordinated the rapid response. Jamiu also expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for his investment in the fire service, which has significantly enhanced their operational capacity.
Additionally, Jamiu praised Dr. Oyewale, Head of the Department, along with staff and security personnel, who took immediate action using buckets of water to control the fire before the firefighters arrived.
In his statement, Jamiu urged the public to be cautious with fire, especially during the dry season, and prayed for continued safety and protection.
