Ekiti State Governor Swears in New Acting Chief Judge, Justice Ogunmoye
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has sworn in Justice Lekan Ogunmoye as the Acting Chief Judge of Ekiti State. Justice Ogunmoye takes over following the passing of the former Chief Judge, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, on 4th November 2024. The swearing-in ceremony was held on Monday at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti, marked by a solemn atmosphere.
Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the prompt inauguration was necessary to prevent a disruption in judicial services, highlighting the importance of continuity in the judiciary. Citing Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, as amended, the Governor underscored his authority to appoint an acting Chief Judge to fill the role.
In his tribute to Justice Adeyeye, the Governor honoured the late Chief Judge as a distinguished jurist and a “perfect gentleman” who made lasting contributions to Ekiti’s judicial system. He praised Justice Adeyeye’s integrity and commitment to the rule of law, expressing condolences and reflecting on the impact of his legacy.
While addressing Justice Ogunmoye, Governor Oyebanji encouraged him to approach the role with humility, professionalism, and a spirit of brotherly solidarity. He urged the Acting Chief Judge to uphold the judicial values and integrity expected of the position during this transitional period.
In response, Justice Ogunmoye expressed gratitude for the appointment, pledging to uphold the administration of justice in Ekiti State and build on his predecessors’ legacies. He acknowledged the Governor’s support for the judiciary and called for further collaboration to enhance the justice system, including a move towards digital delivery and improved welfare for judicial workers.
