Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has handed over a fully furnished three-bedroom bungalow to an elderly widow, Madam Modupe Ajayi Alufoge, in Igbara-Odo Ekiti. The house, built and donated by the Abiyamo Esther Oyebanji Foundation, came as a relief to Madam Ajayi, a roadside petty trader, whose previous home was severely damaged by last year’s heavy rainstorm, leaving her on the brink of homelessness. Representing the Governor at the handover ceremony, his wife, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, emphasised that the initiative reflects the administration’s dedication to supporting vulnerable residents and ensuring no one is left behind.
Governor Oyebanji described the gift as a symbol of compassion and solidarity, underscoring his belief that no one should face life’s challenges alone. Commending Madam Ajayi’s resilience, he assured that his government remains committed to inclusive development and shared prosperity. The event was attended by dignitaries including the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Peju Babafemi, the Chairperson of Igbara-Odo/Ogotun LCDA, Mrs Olowolaju Bukola, and the Arajaka of Igbara-Odo Ekiti, HRM Oba Edward Jayeola, who all praised the Governor’s commitment to uplifting the people of Ekiti.
In an emotional response, Madam Ajayi expressed profound gratitude, calling the gesture a miracle that has changed her life. She recounted her struggles after losing her home and commended the Governor’s humanitarian efforts and model of responsible governance. The Abiyamo Esther Oyebanji Foundation, established in 2024 in memory of the Governor’s late mother, has previously donated a maternity ward to Aramoko General Hospital and an ultra-modern multipurpose hall to First Baptist Church, Ikogosi Ekiti, further demonstrating its dedication to community welfare.
