The media office of former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed claims circulating on social media that he and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, founded a new African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition. In a statement signed by Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Head of Fayemi’s Media Office, the team said no credible evidence or reputable media reports supported the alleged comments attributed to Amaechi, suggesting they could be fabricated or misquoted.
The statement emphasised that Fayemi remains a committed leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State and has publicly endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for re-election under the APC platform. It clarified that while the former governor participates in national discussions on Nigeria’s democracy and governance, such engagements do not signal any intention to defect from the ruling party.
Addressing ongoing speculation about his political allegiance, the media office explained that Fayemi’s reduced national visibility stems from his role as a visiting professor at King’s College London and his work with the Amandla Institute. Nonetheless, he continues to attend APC leadership caucus meetings in Ekiti and actively supports the party’s preparations for the upcoming gubernatorial election.
