The Federal Government has restated its commitment to promoting optimal breastfeeding as a key strategy for improving national health, ensuring nutrition security, and supporting sustainable development. This pledge was made during an event commemorating the 2025 World Breastfeeding Week, held at the National Hospital, Abuja.
At the event, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, outlined a national plan aimed at advancing breastfeeding practices, strengthening support networks, and tackling the environmental and socio-economic challenges of poor infant nutrition. His message emphasized the importance of breastfeeding in securing a healthier future for Nigerian children.
Represented by Mrs. Ladidi-Bako Aiyegbusi, Director and Head of the Nutrition Department at the Ministry, Prof. Pate described this year’s theme, “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems,” as a timely call to action. He urged all stakeholders to work together in building lasting structures that encourage and protect breastfeeding across all levels of society.
