FG 21 Days to Meet Demands or Face Nationwide Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has given the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to address a series of unresolved demands or risk a nationwide strike. The warning followed the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday in Abuja. ASUP cautioned that failure to act within the deadline would lead to the withdrawal of services by members in all public polytechnics and monotechnics across the country.

According to the union, 13 critical issues remain outstanding. These include the non-release of a circular by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) on the Peculiar Academic Allowance, non-payment of arrears from the 25% and 35% salary review, and non-implementation of the review in state-owned polytechnics.

Other demands involve the delay in granting dual mandate status to polytechnics and the non-release of the second tranche of the NEEDS Assessment intervention fund. ASUP stressed that addressing these matters promptly is crucial to preventing disruptions in the academic calendar.
