The Federal Government has unveiled plans to construct 77,400 housing units across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas as part of its Renewed Hope Housing Agenda. This was announced by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Atta, during an event in Kano where hundreds of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) members defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Atta, each local government area will benefit from 100 new homes, with Kano State set to receive 4,400 units, reflecting its 44 LGAs.
Atta described the housing project as a significant step in President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians through accessible and affordable housing. He emphasized that this initiative is one of the administration’s most impactful programs, aimed at addressing the country’s housing deficit and promoting national development. He called on Kano residents and the new APC members to support the Tinubu-led government in its continued effort to uplift citizens.
Welcoming the defectors, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin praised their decision to join the APC, which he described as Africa’s largest and most progressive political party. He expressed confidence that the move would strengthen the party and further the delivery of democratic dividends across the country. The mass defection event and housing announcement reflect the administration’s broader strategy to combine governance with political consolidation.
