Ghana’s President Mahama Meets Tinubu Over Regional Security

Ghanaian President John Mahama visited Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, March 27, 2025. The visit marked Mahama’s first official trip to Nigeria since his inauguration on January 7.

Mahama’s meeting with Tinubu, who serves as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, focused on regional security and diplomatic efforts in West Africa. The Ghanaian leader briefed Tinubu on his recent engagements with the military-led governments of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, highlighting ongoing efforts to restore stability in the region.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mahama emphasised the need for collaborative strategies to address security threats and strengthen diplomatic ties within the ECOWAS bloc. The discussions are expected to shape further regional interventions amid growing concerns over military takeovers in West Africa.
