In commemoration of his 57th birthday, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State demonstrated his commitment to inclusivity and social welfare by donating ₦21 million and food items to three special schools and two special needs centres in the state.
Each of the three schools and the state rehabilitation centre received ₦5 million, while the therapy centre for children with disabilities was granted ₦1 million.The Governor, represented by his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Olayemi Oyebanji, presented the donations at the Oshuntokun Pavilion, Government House, Ado Ekiti. The event emphasized the Governor’s dedication to ensuring the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and his administration’s broader developmental agenda.Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji highlighted that the Governor prioritises the education and inclusivity of students with special needs, urging well-meaning individuals to contribute to supporting vulnerable groups in Ekiti.
The First Lady’s remarks were echoed by Mrs. Adetoun Agboola, Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, who praised the Governor’s initiatives for changing societal perceptions of PWDs.The event also featured praise and worship sessions led by the students, who expressed gratitude through prayers and songs. The celebration was attended by key government officials, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adeoye Aribasoye, and the Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Folakemi Olomojobi.This act of philanthropy aligns with the Governor’s earlier request for friends and associates to channel birthday celebrations into donations for the less privileged, showcasing his vision for a more equitable society.
