Governor Oyebanji Urges Federal Government to Fast-Track Livestock Development Protocols

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged the Federal Government to expedite the implementation of the Livestock Productivity and Resilient Support Project (L-PRES) to improve livestock productivity and resilience in Nigeria.

The Governor emphasized the importance of this initiative in addressing food security challenges and boosting the agricultural economy during a meeting with the L-PRES management team, led by National Coordinator Mr. Sanusi Abubakar and World Bank L-PRES task team leader, Dr. Emmanuel Saani, on Thursday in Ado Ekiti.

Governor Oyebanji reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming the agriculture sector by enhancing livestock production, which he described as critical for job creation and economic growth. He urged the Federal Government to accelerate the project’s protocols, stressing the time-sensitive nature of agricultural business. The Governor further assured the L-PRES team that Ekiti State would meet its obligations, including counterpart funds, to ensure the successful implementation of the project.In their remarks, the L-PRES officials commended the state government for its proactive steps, including the establishment of broiler centers and plans to attract partners for optimal livestock business and processing. They outlined their commitment to scaling up broiler production and modernizing the state’s abattoirs. The project, which aligns with the Governor’s agricultural agenda, aims to strengthen the state’s agricultural value chains and contribute significantly to the local economy.
