Impeached South Korean President Yoon Resists Investigators’ Queries

South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol resisted calls on Monday from investigators probing his alleged attempt to declare martial law earlier this month.

Suspended by parliament since Saturday, Yoon faces dual investigations into alleged insurrection led by prosecutors and a team comprising police, defence ministry officials, and anti-corruption investigators. Meanwhile, South Korea’s Constitutional Court has commenced hearings on Yoon’s impeachment, with a six-month window to decide whether to uphold or overturn the legislative decision.

The impeachment comes amid mounting political tensions and questions about executive overreach in the country. The ongoing inquiries and legal proceedings have intensified scrutiny of Yoon’s administration, underscoring a critical juncture in South Korean politics.
