My Mum Lived an Exemplary Life of Service, Kindness, Diligence – Gov Oyebanji

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has paid glowing tribute to his late mother, Chief (Mrs) Esther Oyebanji, describing her as a woman of exceptional kindness, unwavering service, and diligence.The Governor spoke during the 14th memorial service held in her honour at the First Baptist Church, Ikogosi Ekiti, on Saturday.

The event, attended by family members, traditional rulers, community leaders, clerics, and associates, was a moment of reflection and appreciation for the enduring legacy of the matriarch, who passed away in 2011.Governor Oyebanji recalled his mother’s selfless nature, noting that she gave her all to everyone around her—both family and non-family members. He highlighted her charitable nature, stating that she often sacrificed profits from her business to help others.”There are two things about mummy: her love for everyone and her generosity. She treated everyone like her own child. She gave her life for us,” he said, recounting how she trekked several kilometres to vote for his political party in 2011, an act that ultimately led to the illness she never recovered from.

He added that the family established a foundation in her honour to preserve her memory and values.In his sermon, the President of the Ekiti Baptist Conference, Rev. Dr Emmanuel Aribasoye, urged attendees to live lives that glorify God, reminding them that the impact one leaves behind is the true measure of a life well lived. He cited Mama Oyebanji’s life of generosity as an example of a righteous legacy that continues to inspire.

The Governor’s wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, praised her late mother-in-law as a relentless hustler who worked hard to build a better life for her children. Their father, Pa Ezekiel Oyebanji, also shared heartfelt memories of his late wife, describing her as intelligent, loving, and a great pillar in their family.Speaking on behalf of the children, Mrs Feyisike Oshowo described their mother as an exceptional woman whose boundless love and giving spirit left a lasting mark on all who knew her.Prayers were later offered for the Oyebanji family, the church, and the Ekiti State government.
