NAFDAC Raids Cemetery Market, Aba, Over Fake products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has carried out a significant raid at the Eziukwu Market, popularly known as Cemetery Market, in Aba, Abia State, confiscating a large haul of counterfeit and unwholesome products.

Leading the operation, NAFDAC’s South East Director, Martins Iluyomade, described the seized items as comparable to “weapons of mass destruction” due to their potential to cause severe harm to consumers. The operation, which lasted several hours, uncovered counterfeit goods including wines, whiskey, yoghurt, carbonated drinks, chips, dry gin, and other beverages—both foreign and local brands.

These products were reportedly manufactured in unhygienic and unsafe conditions within the market.This raid underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to curbing the distribution of fake and substandard products while protecting public health. Authorities have assured that further investigations will lead to the prosecution of individuals involved in these illegal activities.
