The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has officially commenced the calibration of the landing systems at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport. This important step signals the airport’s readiness for the commencement of commercial flight operations. The calibration process follows the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) recent approval for non-scheduled flight operations at the airport for a six-month period.
The NAMA calibration aircraft, which touched down at the airport at exactly 4:13 PM on Friday, marked the beginning of the exercise. Calibration, a crucial process in the aviation industry, ensures the safety of air navigation systems by inspecting and adjusting test equipment, including the instrument landing systems and communication radios. This procedure is a key part of meeting international aviation standards, paving the way for safe and efficient operations at the airport.
In a statement to journalists, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Airport Projects, AVM Sunday Makinde (rtd), expressed confidence that the airport was fully prepared for commercial operations. He assured that the airport could accommodate all types of aircraft and highlighted the airport’s potential to boost the state’s economy, investment, tourism, and industrial development. With various inspections and certifications from aviation agencies complete, the Ekiti government is optimistic about the positive impact the airport will have on both local and international connectivity.
