The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed that all passengers must switch off their mobile phones during aircraft take-off and landing.
The directive follows two recent incidents of unruly passenger behaviour at Nigerian airports. Announcing the decision on Tuesday, NCAA Director-General, Captain Chris Najomo, said the measure was agreed upon during the National Civil Aviation Security Committee (NCASC) meeting, aimed at addressing passenger misconduct and averting potential security breaches.
Najomo added that a memo would be issued to all airlines to update their safety protocols in line with the new rule. He further cautioned that unchecked incidents of unruly behaviour could erode public confidence in the aviation sector.
