NUJ Mourns Former National Secretary Jola Ogunlusi, Aged 91

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of its former National Secretary, Mr Jola Ogunlusi, who died at the age of 91 following a brief illness.In a statement signed by NUJ National President, Alhassan Abdullahi, the Union described Ogunlusi as a pioneering figure whose legacy would endure within the annals of Nigerian journalism.

Appointed in 1977 as the first National Secretary through selection rather than election, Ogunlusi played a key role in establishing the Union’s National Secretariat and mentoring generations of media professionals.To honour his memory, the NUJ has directed all 36 State Councils and the Federal Capital Territory to open condolence registers and observe a seven-day mourning period.

The Union hailed Ogunlusi as a selfless leader and tireless advocate whose contributions shaped the NUJ’s foundation and future.
