NUPRC Boosts Crude Oil Production to 1.7 Million Barrels Per Day, Reduces Oil Theft

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has recorded a major breakthrough in curbing oil theft and increasing crude oil production.

According to the Commission’s Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe, crude oil output surged to 1.7 million barrels per day in January 2025, up from 1.1 million barrels per day in 2022.

Key Highlights:

Oil Theft Reduction: Stolen crude has dropped to 5,000 barrels per day due to enhanced security measures.

Increased Production: The improved monitoring efforts have significantly boosted output.

Gas Flare Reduction: The Nigeria Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme is advancing the country’s energy transition strategy by eliminating routine gas flaring, cutting methane emissions, and promoting carbon capture technologies.

Speaking at the Renewed Hope Global Town Hall Conference in Abuja, Komolafe reaffirmed NUPRC’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
