Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reaffirmed his commitment to boosting the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by supporting the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS). Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony for the new EKIRS headquarters in Ado Ekiti, the Governor praised the agency’s performance, which saw monthly revenue rise from ₦600 million to ₦1.8 billion in 2024. He emphasised the importance of transitioning to digital revenue collection to block leakages and warned against manual tax collection practices that facilitate fraud.
Governor Oyebanji commended EKIRS Chairman, Mr Olaniran Olatona, and his team for their dedication, which earned the agency national recognition as one of Nigeria’s top-performing state revenue bodies. He assured staff of continued investment in their welfare to motivate further excellence and foster economic growth. The Governor urged all revenue-generating MDAs to collaborate with EKIRS for seamless tax administration and pledged to crack down on any acts sabotaging the state’s revenue collection efforts.
In his remarks, Mr Olatona expressed gratitude for the Governor’s support, highlighting that the new Revenue House would streamline taxpayer services, attract collaborations, and enhance transparency. The groundbreaking event was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye, and other government officials.
