The presidency yesterday responded to claims from opposition quarters suggesting that Nigeria’s democracy is under threat and the country is veering towards a one-party system under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
In a statement titled “Democracy Strong and Alive in Nigeria,” signed by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the presidency firmly dismissed allegations that the Tinubu administration is drifting towards authoritarianism.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the presidency rejected assertions that the recent defections of opposition members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) indicated a weakening of the nation’s multi-party system.
