The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu at the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly failing to order a probe into the theft of ₦57 billion from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in 2021.
SERAP alleges that the funds were misappropriated under the previous administration and are demanding accountability.
The organization is urging the court to compel President Tinubu to instruct Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi to collaborate with anti-corruption agencies to investigate the missing funds. If evidence is sufficient, SERAP is also calling for the prosecution of those implicated. The case underscores SERAP’s commitment to transparency and the fight against corruption, as it seeks judicial intervention to enforce accountability in the management of public resources. The suit is yet to be assigned to a judge.
