Nigerian activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has facilitated the release of controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, from an Ilorin prison following a legal dispute with Fuji musician King Saheed Osupa Akorede.
Portable had been remanded after Osupa filed a petition accusing him of criminal defamation, threats to life, and incitement. However, the matter took a turn when Sowore intervened, leading to Osupa withdrawing his complaint. As a result, all charges against the singer were dropped.
Sowore, while celebrating the outcome, criticised the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as an unnecessary escalation of a civil matter into a criminal case.
