Thousands Rally in Albuquerque for ‘Hands Off!’ Protest

Albuquerque joined cities nationwide on Saturday, April 5, for the “Hands Off!” protest as thousands gathered at Civic Plaza to push back against actions by the Trump administration.

The protest spotlighted a range of local and national issues including immigrant and LGBTQ+ rights, climate justice, Medicaid, Palestinian rights, free speech, public education, and policies at the University of New Mexico.

Prominent figures who spoke at the rally included labour activist Dolores Huerta, gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller, Women’s March Chair Samia Assed, and UNM law professor Ernesto Longa.

The crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to Huerta, who turns 95 on April 10.
