President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for promoting regional integration over the past five decades, while highlighting the ongoing challenges of insecurity, political instability, and infrastructural deficit confronting the subregion.
Speaking through the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, at an event in Accra, Ghana, to flag off the golden jubilee celebrations of ECOWAS, the President noted that despite the obstacles, the regional body has remained steadfast in upholding the ideals of its founding fathers.
As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu described the organisation as a symbol of hope for the region’s over 400 million citizens and called for deeper collaboration to address the pressing issues hindering growth and development across member states.
