Tinubu, Leaders Honour Fayemi at 60th Birthday Symposium

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, alongside former heads of state, governors, and other prominent figures, paid glowing tributes to former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, as he marked his 60th birthday. The commemorative symposium, held in Abuja, centred on the theme “Renewing the Pan-African Ideal for the Changing Times: The Policy and Leadership Challenges and Opportunities.” The event highlighted Fayemi’s contributions to governance, policy-making, and regional integration in Africa.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu used the occasion to call on African leaders to abandon their long-standing dependence on foreign strategies. He emphasised that the continent urgently needs leaders who approach policy-making with precision and vision, rather than relying on empty slogans. His remarks underscored the need for self-reliance and strategic governance in addressing Africa’s socio-economic challenges.

The symposium featured discussions from distinguished scholars, policymakers, and political thinkers, exploring ways to revitalise Pan-African ideals in today’s global landscape. Fayemi, known for his advocacy for regional integration and policy-driven leadership, was lauded for his role in shaping Nigeria’s democratic landscape. The event also included the unveiling of his new book, If This Giant Must Rise, further cementing his legacy as a thought leader in African governance.
