Tinubu Orders Security Chiefs to Act Decisively in Benue Crisis

President Bola Tinubu has renewed his directive to security chiefs to take urgent and decisive action to restore peace in Benue State. This was disclosed in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, following renewed violence in the state that has led to multiple fatalities.

The President’s renewed order comes after a recent attack in Yelewata, a border town in Benue State, where suspected herdsmen from neighboring Nasarawa State reportedly killed 59 people. The attack is part of a series of reprisal assaults that have continued to destabilize communities in the region.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, while addressing journalists at the Government House, confirmed the casualty figure, stating that the number was based on physical headcounts conducted by security personnel in collaboration with affected families. The state government continues to call for federal intervention to curb the ongoing violence.
