Two lives were lost, including a 45-year-old man and an unidentified female passenger, while four others sustained injuries in separate accidents along the Long Bridge and Sagamu corridors of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The tragic incidents occurred on Friday afternoon, as confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command.
Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola revealed that one of the accidents involved a Volkswagen bus with registration number LSR 793 YF, carrying 14 passengers. The vehicle was en route to Ibadan when a front tyre suddenly burst on the Long Bridge. The driver, in a desperate bid to regain control, lost command of the steering, causing the bus to veer off course, crash into the road median, and somersault multiple times.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, providing medical assistance to the injured and evacuating the deceased. Authorities have reiterated the importance of vehicle maintenance and road safety precautions to prevent further tragedies on the expressway.
