Trump Pledges to Relocate Homeless from Washington, D.C.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday vowed to move homeless people far from Washington, D.C., following days of hinting at possible federal control over the U.S. capital. Trump has repeatedly and falsely claimed that crime in the city is on the rise, and said he would outline his plans during a press conference scheduled for Monday.

The nation’s capital, which is governed by a locally elected administration under congressional oversight, has thousands of residents spending nights in shelters or on the streets. However, official figures show homelessness numbers have dropped compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Earlier in the week, Trump also threatened to deploy the National Guard as part of a wider crackdown on what he maintains — without evidence — is increasing crime in Washington, D.C., a claim disputed by city officials and crime data.
