The United special envoy Steve Witkoff has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for discussions related to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the Kremlin confirmed. The meeting comes just days ahead of a White House-imposed deadline for Russia to agree to a peace deal or face new economic sanctions.
While the Kremlin has yet to release further details about the meeting, the diplomatic visit signals a renewed push for dialogue amid rising international pressure. The talks mark a significant moment in the ongoing search for a resolution to the conflict.
Prior to meeting Putin, Witkoff also held talks with Kirill Dmitriev, a key Russian negotiator involved in past Ukraine-Russia peace discussions, including those held in Istanbul. Dmitriev has also participated in prior U.S.-Russia diplomatic engagements.
