Venezuela has strongly criticised the United States for invoking a wartime law to deport over 200 alleged members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to El Salvador, a move that was swiftly blocked by a US judge.
In a statement on Sunday, the Venezuelan government denounced the deportation as “anachronistic, illegal, and in violation of human rights.” Caracas also expressed “profound indignation” over reports that children as young as 14 were among those deported.
The controversial deportation has escalated tensions between Washington and Caracas, with Venezuela accusing the US of human rights violations and disregarding international legal norms.
