WAEC Faces Backlash as Result Checker Portal Goes Down Amid WASSCE Outrage

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has come under intense criticism following the temporary shutdown of its result checker portal on Wednesday evening. The development has further fuelled public frustration, especially as discontent grows over the poor performance recorded in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), particularly in English Language.

In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, WAEC attributed the shutdown to technical issues. The council assured the public that it was working diligently to resolve the problem and restore access to the portal within 24 hours.

The disruption has drawn widespread condemnation from candidates and parents who were already grappling with the disappointing exam outcomes. Many have questioned the council’s preparedness and transparency, urging WAEC to address both the technical lapses and the broader concerns surrounding the 2025 WASSCE results
