The World Health Organisation (WHO) has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to provide cost-free cancer medicines to thousands of children in low- and middle-income countries, aiming to boost survival rates in these regions.
The first shipments of life-saving treatments have already been dispatched to Mongolia and Uzbekistan, with additional deliveries planned for Ecuador, Jordan, Nepal, and Zambia as part of the project’s pilot phase.
WHO estimates that in 2025, the programme will benefit approximately 5,000 children with cancer, spanning at least 30 hospitals across the six participating countries. This initiative marks a significant step toward equitable access to essential cancer treatments, ensuring that children in underserved communities receive the care they need.
