Wike Defends Demolition of Illegal Structures in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has justified the ongoing demolition of properties in Abuja, stating that he will not be deterred by blackmail. According to Wike, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) is targeting structures illegally erected on government-owned lands.

In recent months, the FCTA has ramped up efforts to clear illegal buildings, including estates and shanties, citing concerns over security risks and unauthorised use of government property. Wike emphasised that the demolitions are necessary to restore order and protect public lands from encroachment.

The minister reassured residents that the demolitions adhere to legal standards and are aimed at fostering sustainable urban development. Despite growing criticism, Wike maintained that the government remains committed to enforcing regulations and safeguarding Abuja’s integrity as the nation’s capital.
