Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for a direct meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a renewed push to end the ongoing war. His appeal came on Thursday, shortly after former U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, held talks with Putin in Moscow.
Trump described the meeting between his envoy and the Russian leader as “highly productive,” though official U.S. sources maintained that Washington would continue to impose sanctions on countries conducting trade with Moscow. The talks have stirred global attention as diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict intensify.
Zelensky later revealed that he had a phone conversation with Trump, during which the former U.S. president indicated he could meet with Putin “very soon.” Zelensky added that several European leaders also participated in the call, underscoring growing international involvement in the search for a peaceful resolution
