Ekiti govt credits lowest media-reported killings to purposeful leadership

The Ekiti State Government has attributed its record of the lowest number of media-reported killings in Nigeria during the second quarter of 2025 to purposeful leadership and sustained security efforts.

Citing a new report by Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria, which tracks killings nationwide from April to June, the government said the achievement was the result of deliberate collaboration with security agencies, local communities, and stakeholders across the state’s 16 LGAs and 18 LCDAs.

Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, said trust between the people and the government, youth engagement in agribusiness and entrepreneurship, and transparency in governance have helped reduce grievances that could escalate into violence.

He noted that grassroots intelligence and early-warning systems were strengthened through partnerships with traditional rulers, town unions, and vigilante groups. Olatunbosun added that regular Security Council meetings, deployment of forest and agro-rangers, and the Amotekun Corps, alongside investments in agriculture, had transformed previously ungoverned spaces into economic hubs.
