The Federal Government has begun a nationwide ranking exercise for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, with the assessment expected to be completed by December 15, 2026.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Tertiary Education Ranking Advisory Committee, Professor Peter Okebukola, disclosed this on Wednesday, saying universities would be assessed using 22 indicators.

The exercise, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Education, covers both public and private tertiary institutions.

The government said the exercise is aimed at providing a national framework for assessing institutional performance and identifying areas that require improvement.

The ranking will also extend the assessment framework beyond universities to polytechnics and colleges of education.
