FG BEGINS TECHNICAL, VOCATIONAL TRAINING FOR 777 YOUNG NIGERIANS

October 04, 2026

The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has commenced technical and vocational skills training for 777 young Nigerians in Abuja under the third cohort of the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project.

The World Bank-funded programme aims to expand access to quality technical and vocational education, strengthen skills training institutions and improve employment opportunities for young Nigerians.

The trainees are receiving competency-based training in areas including digital and creative media, beauty and cosmetology, construction, agriculture and agribusiness, among others.

The current cohort will also receive industry internships and employment support, as the IDEAS project targets about 80,000 young Nigerians nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, First Deputy President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Professor Adesoji Adesugba, said the initiative would help bridge the gap between the growing youth population and the skills required in the labour market.
