The Federal Government has withdrawn its criminal complaint against Ms. Comfort Emmanson, a passenger accused of unruly behaviour aboard an Ibom Air flight, and reduced the flight ban imposed on Fuji music star Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, announced the decisions on Wednesday after consultations with aviation stakeholders. He said the move followed a review of the incidents, appeals from concerned individuals, and the remorse expressed by those involved. The Airport Command and police prosecutor are expected to take steps to secure Emmanson’s release from Kirikiri Prison this week.
Keyamo explained that the decisions were part of efforts to address recent cases of disorderly conduct at Nigerian airports. He stressed the importance of balancing discipline with fairness and rehabilitation, noting that the resolutions were reached in the interest of maintaining decorum while allowing for second chances.
The minister also revealed that the government plans to engage KWAM 1 as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol. This follows the recent controversy over the musician’s conduct at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Keyamo said the engagement would help promote public awareness and encourage compliance with aviation security procedures.
