Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has inaugurated a new Internal Revenue Service Area Tax Office in Ikole Ekiti, aimed at boosting the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR). This initiative is part of his administration’s strategy to reduce dependence on federal allocations and fund recurrent expenditure through local revenue.
Governor Oyebanji emphasized that decentralizing revenue collection would enhance efficiency and support economic sustainability. He called on residents to fulfil their civic duty by paying taxes, underscoring that the funds would be used for vital development projects across the state. The event also saw commendations for the State Internal Revenue Service, which, according to Chairman Olutona Olaniran, has fostered greater trust and compliance through visible development projects, making it easier for citizens to see the value of their tax contributions.
