TINUBU DECLARES NEW ERA OF PROSPERITY AS NIGERIA MARKS 66TH INDEPENDENCE

October 02, 2026

President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria has moved beyond the phase of painful economic reforms into a new era of shared prosperity.

In his 66th Independence Day address, Tinubu said the economy grew by more than four per cent in 2026, while inflation had fallen from its peak, foreign reserves improved and the foreign exchange market stabilised.

He also said oil theft had reduced and Nigeria recorded its highest-ever non-oil export revenue in 2025, exceeding six billion dollars.

The President, however, acknowledged that millions of Nigerians continue to face difficulties with food, school fees, healthcare and transportation costs.

Tinubu said the next phase of his administration would focus on reducing the cost of living, creating productive jobs, expanding agriculture and industrialisation, improving infrastructure and tackling poverty.

He also pledged stronger support for vulnerable households and increased access to education, healthcare, infrastructure and financing for businesses, declaring that “the age of reform has done its work” and the “age of prosperity” had begun.
