AKPABIO: NIGERIA’S BANKING SECTOR NOW STRONGER, INSECURITY WILL SOON BE DEFEATED

September 18, 2026

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said Nigeria’s banking sector has become stronger and more resilient, while assuring Nigerians that the country’s insecurity will soon be defeated.

Akpabio made the remarks while rallying citizens behind President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope reforms, stressing that financial-sector reforms, security operations and cooperation between citizens and security agencies were critical to economic recovery and national development.

The Senate President said the era when banks could suddenly collapse, leaving depositors at risk of losing their funds, was over, attributing the development to reforms implemented under the Tinubu administration.

He said ongoing bank consolidation and recapitalisation were helping to strengthen the financial system, restore investor confidence and protect depositors’ funds.

On insecurity, Akpabio described the challenge as a major obstacle to economic development, noting that businesses and investors could not thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity.

He said security agencies had shifted towards a more proactive approach in confronting criminal elements, including bandits and insurgents, and assured Nigerians that the security challenges would be defeated.

Akpabio also called for greater cooperation between citizens and security agencies, urging Nigerians to provide credible and timely information that could assist security operations.

He acknowledged the economic difficulties being experienced by Nigerians, saying the government remained committed to addressing structural challenges and implementing reforms aimed at building a stronger economy.
