TINUBU ORDERS DIGITAL FREE ZONES ROADMAP, SET TO INTERVENE IN APC GOVERNORS-WIKE DISPUTE
September 18, 2026
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Federal Government to develop a roadmap for the full launch of Nigeria’s Digital Free Zones initiative within 180 days.
The initiative is designed to create an enabling environment for Nigerian technology and service companies to access global capital, create jobs and develop products and services for international markets.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu directed the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, to develop the roadmap for the initiative.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu is expected to intervene in the growing disagreement between governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 elections.
A senior presidential aide familiar with the development said the President was expected to engage the parties in an effort to resolve their differences.
The aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly on the matter, disclosed that discussions were being considered to address the disagreement.
In a separate development, President Tinubu on Thursday met with French President Emmanuel Macron for a private dinner at the Élysée Palace in Paris.
The meeting was disclosed by Onanuga in a post on X on Friday.
According to the presidential aide, the meeting reflected the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and France and their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
